Mosca negra invade España y puede extenderse por Europa.
Una enorme nube de moscas negras cubre la región de los barrios de Valdebebas, San Fernando de Henares y Coslada, en las afueras de Madrid.
Conocida vulgarmente como mosca negra, de la especie Simuliidae, son parte de la familia de dípteros nematóceros que llegan a medir de 2 a 5 mm, de color negro oscuro y boca picadora chupadora, alas anchas y patas mucho más cortas.
Son vectores de transmisión de enfermedades graves como la oncocercosis. Su mordedura deja rastros en la piel inflamada con un punto rojo en el centro. Necesitan la sangre humana para poner sus huevos.
Su hábitat son canales y ríos, y usan la vegetación para anidar sus larvas, que crecen con el contacto del agua y en temperaturas elevadas, principalmente en primavera y verano.
Se tiene un registro que en el año 2018 más de 300,000 residentes de esta misma zona, fueron tratados por picaduras.
Se teme que la plaga se extienda a países del sur de Europa. Ya las autoridades de Madrid luchan contra la plaga, en medio de una crisis por la pandemia del Coronavirus. Por lo que han solicitado a los habitantes no salir de sus hogares y en caso de tener que hacerlo, vestir prendas de colores claros: pantalones gruesos y largos, blusas y camisas de mangas largas, y procurar no exponen extremidades a la picadura del insecto.
Los trabajadores municipales han comenzado con el saneamiento de ríos y canales donde se cría la mosca negra.
Rosa Pérez, portavoz de la Sociedad Española de Medicina de Emergencia (SEMES), advirtió a las personas que usen un poderoso repelente de insectos.
