Así lo dio a conocer el Profr. Profesor Huanting Wang, de la Facultad de Ingeniería de la Universidad de Monash, en Australia, en un reportaje para la revista Nature Sustainability.

Con motivo a ser homenajeado por haber recibido la prestigiosa Beca Laureate del Consejo de Investigación Australiano (ARC), el Profr. Wang dijo: Espero desarrollar capacidades de investigación de clase mundial en el campo interdisciplinario de rápido crecimiento de las membranas de separación que operan a escala subnanométrica.
Desarrollo de nuevas tecnologías.
El trabajo premiado de Wang, consiste en el desarrollo de tecnología a base de materiales nanoporosos y membranas compuestas, para transformar agua salobre y agua de mar en agua potable segura y limpia, en menos de 30 minutos utilizando marcos de metal-orgánicos que refractan la luz solar.
Mi programa de investigación desarrollará materiales avanzados para aplicaciones en la economía energética que van desde hidrógeno renovable y biocombustibles hasta tecnologías sostenibles de extracción y reciclaje de litio, amplió Wang.
En la investigación, que está respaldada por la Universidad ante la propuesta de uso de innovación en energías renovables y minería para obtener como producto agua limpia, participaron otros científicos, integrando un equipo de investigación global.
Este proyecto desarrollará tecnologías de membranas pioneras en el mundo para producir y utilizar energía de manera eficiente al tiempo que se reduce el impacto ambiental. La investigación tiene una amplia gama de aplicaciones en energía sostenible, incluida la producción y el uso eficientes de la energía del hidrógeno y la producción de biocombustibles de alta eficiencia.

La investigación también apoya la fabricación y el reciclaje sostenibles de baterías de iones de litio. La tecnología actual de extracción de litio es perjudicial para el medio ambiente y utiliza grandes cantidades de productos químicos. Actualmente, las baterías de litio no son reciclables.

Los investigadores pudieron lograr un TDS de <500 ppm en sólo 30 minutos y regenerar el MOF para su reutilización en cuatro minutos bajo la luz solar.
