Isla Mauricio, es un pequeño país africano que cuenta con las competencias ni la experiencia necesario para desencallar navíos varados, de acuerdo con las palabras textuales del mensaje de Jugnauth.
El naufragio representa un peligro para la isla y los ecosistemas de arrecifes naturales que albergan especies en peligro de extinción. Happy Khambule, director de campañas de Energía y Clima de Greenpeace Africa, dijo que miles de especies en las prístinas albuferas de Blue Bay, Pointe d’Esny y Mahebourg están en riesgo de ahogarse en un mar de polución, con nefastas consecuencias para la economía, la seguridad alimentaria y la salud de Mauricio.
La nave permanece varada frente a la zona conocida como Pointe d’Esny y no se reportaron la pérdida de vidas humanas. Mietras que la empresa propietaria del cargamento ya se ha hecho responsable:han comenzado ha instalar barreras para recolectar el petróleo cerca de los restos del naufragio y para proteger el Parque Marino Blue Bay.
El ministro de Medio Ambiente, Kavydass Ramano, ha declarado que el país se enfrenta a una situación ambiental sin precedentes.
