Fotógrafo submarino realiza un hallazgo sorprendente.
Rodrigo Friscione es un reconocido fotógrafo submarino mexicano, que realizó un hallazgo sorprendente: ¡encontró cinco cenotes de agua dulce en las profundidades del mar Caribe mexicano!
Un total de cinco cenotes profundos ubicados a poco más de 22 kilómetros de la costa del estado de Quintana Roo, entre las turísticas Isla Mujeres e Isla Contoy.
En la Península de Yucatán se han registrado el hallazgo de varios cenotes. Más no había registro de cenotes con manantiales de agua dulce a tan larga distancia de la superficie marina, profundos y, además, con estructura calcárea.
Me llamó la atención, me metí al hueco y me di cuenta que no tenía fondo: era un hueco infinito, relató a Friscione para la agencia EFE.
Yo sentía que salía agua dulce porque el agua se siente más fría y había un haloclina, es decir, un cambio en la calidad del agua, que habla de un cambio en la salinidad, y se me hizo interesantísimo que del fondo del mar saliera agua dulce, amplió.
El proyecto de investigación.
El descubrimiento llevó a un proyecto mayor: en la exploración de uno de los cenotes, participarán Friscione y un grupo de buzos, espeleólogos y biólogos y arqueólogos marinos, involucrándose la ayuda de Robert Ballard, quien descubrió los restos del Titanic en 1989.
Ballard está entusiasmado y aceptó de inmediato, informó el fotógrafo submarino.
Ya han solicitado los permisos a la Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales y del Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología, y se encuentran esperando la respuesta.
Otro factor que se investiga es el hábitat y cómo se desarrolló en manto acuático de agua dulce. Se trata de un cenote kárstico que podría haber estado seco hace miles de años, cuando el nivel del mar estaba muy por debajo de lo actual y aquello era una cueva y no un cenote.
El biólogo Rafael de la Parra, director de la asociación civil Ch’ooj Ajauil, ya se encuentra investigando la relación entre estos cenotes y la ruta que siguen el tiburón ballena y las mantarrayas en la región.
