Tragedia ambiental: 150 ejemplares de lobos marinos sin vida en costas mexicanas.
Un total de 150 ejemplares de lobo marino, fueron hallados sin vida en las costas del Golfo de Ulloa, en Baja California Sur.
De la especie Zalophus californianus, sujeta a protección especial por la Norma Oficial Mexicana 059, este hallazgo constituye una tragedia ambiental.
Fueron pescadores de la localidad quienes descubrieron el jueves pasado al menos 150 ejemplares varados sin vida sobre la arena en Cabo San Lázaro, municipio de Comondú, en avanzado estado de descomposición.
Esta es la mortandad de lobos marinos más grande ocurrida en México, y fue dada a conocer de manera inmediata a la Comisión Nacional de Áreas Naturales Protegidas (Conanp) y a la Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Ambiente (Profepa).
Por el momento las autoridades ambientales han guardado total hermetismo respecto a la situación. Pero se sabe que ya han enviado inspectores para dar inicio una investigación que arroje datos respecto a la mortandad de la especie.
En el primer momento del hallazgo se creyó que la muerte de estos 150 ejemplares pudiera haber sido provocado por un fenómeno natural conocido como la “marea roja” la cual consiste en la proliferación de algas tóxicas.
Demandamos que se dé a conocer qué provocó la muerte de 150 lobos marinos en Cabo San Lázaro, BCS.

Sin embargo el hecho se descartó, ya que la Comisión Federal para la Protección contra Riesgos Sanitarios (Cofepris) no había hecho algún reporte sobre este fenómeno.
Ante este hallazgo la misma Profepa ordenó a la Red de Varamiento de Mamíferos Marinos de La Paz, que no se ventilara nada al respecto sobre este suceso.

Sin embargo, una teoría apunta a que los animales marinos pudieron haber fallecido por la pesca ilegal masiva, al quedar atrapados en las grandes redes que son utilizadas para la pesca de atún u otros peces.
Por otro lado, la caza furtiva de la especie también obedece al tráfico comercial en el mercado negro: el crimen organizado compran el pene de lobos marinos y son altamente cotizados en China.
