La lluvia de meteoros Leónidas se activó desde el pasado 6 de noviembre y estará así hasta el 30 de este mes.
Este mes de noviembre, tendremos presente la lluvia de estrellas Leónidas, fenómeno que se activó el 06 de noviembre, y el día de mayor intensidad será el 17 de noviembre.
Este fenómeno ha maravillado a quienes integran la NASA. Las Leónidas se consideran una lluvia importante, aunque las tasas de meteoritos suelen ser tan bajas como unos 15 meteoros por hora.
Son meteoros brillantes y también pueden ser coloridos. Estos elementos irradian desde la constelación de Leo entre las de Cáncer y la Osa Mayor.
Viajan a velocidades de 71 kilómetros por segundo, y se consideran algunos de los meteoros más rápidos que existen.
¿De dónde se originan?
Estas piezas de desechos espaciales que interactúan con nuestra atmósfera para crear las Leónidas se originan en el cometa 55P / Tempel-Tuttle, que tarda 33 años en orbitar el Sol.
El Tempel-Tuttle es un cometa pequeño: su núcleo mide solo aproximadamente 3.6 kilómetros de ancho.
Este cometa fue descubierto dos veces de forma independiente: en 1865 y 1866 por Ernst Tempel y Horace Tuttle, respectivamente.
Y para alegría de muchas personas ya se encuentra visible, pues la NASA ha informado que desde el pasado 6 de noviembre se activó y estará disponible hasta el 30 de noviembre de 2020.

Los antecedentes.
Una de estas espectaculares tormentas de meteoros se dio en 1966.
Los observadores se quedaron maravillados cuando miles de meteoros por minuto cayeron a través de la atmósfera de la Tierra durante un período de 15 minutos.
