IPN aclara: meteorito NO extinguió a los dinosaurios.
El Instituto Politécnico Nacional ha emitido una publicación en la que aclara que un meteorito no fue el causante de la extinción de los dinosaurios.
El artículo publicado en la Gaceta Gondwana, menciona la posibilidad que un evento volcánico, haya sido el causante de la desaparición de los dinosaurios del planeta.
Un grupo de científicos del IPN expuso que en la zona de Chicxulub, en la península de Yucatán.
Donde al parecer se registró un «evento volcánico subacuático» que pudo haber terminado con los dinosaurios.
El equipo de investigadores ha hallado evidencias geológicas, mineralógicas y estratigráficas que refuerzan la hipótesis de que los dinosaurios no se extinguieron por la caída de un meteorito.
Sino que la zona del supuesto impacto del meteorito, conserva restos de una erupción volcánica. Esto coincide con el fin de la era de los dinosaurios, al final del periodo Cretácico.
En el boletín científico se expone que un estudio realizado a la secuencia de rocas carbonatadas de origen marino transicionales en la zona de contacto entre el Cretácico-Paleoceno.
El resultado.
El resultado no arroja ninguna evidencia geológica relacionada con el supuesto impacto de un cuerpo litológico extraterrestre en la región, incluido el iridio.
Esto hizo que los científicos se replantearan la hipótesis de la caída del meteorito y se buscara una explicación.
Encontrando la propuesta de un evento volcánico mayor, como factor de la extinción de los dinosaurios. Aquellos que no fueron alcanzados por el fuego, lo fueron por las emisiones de gas.
Ahora la hipótesis genera más consenso en la comunidad científica para explicar cómo llegó la quinta extinción masiva de la Tierra con el impacto de una enorme roca en Chicxulub.
Su potencia equivale a 10 mil millones de bombas atómicas como la de Hiroshima.
Pero en la zona del supuesto impacto, existe un registro geofísico de mil 200 metros de profundidad se observa la presencia de sedimentos de origen volcánico.
En el hallazgo analizaron muestras de cenizas, lavas, vidrio volcánico y bentonita, entre otros. Lo que corresponde más con un evento volcánico.
