Reaparece Rana Cristal, presuntamente extinta por 18 años.
Esta especie de Rana Cristal es de donde se inspiraron para crear al personaje de la Rana René, conocido en el mundo de los Muppets.
Tres ejemplares de la Rana Cristal fueron avistados en Bolivia, luego de estar presuntamente extinta desde hace 18 años.
Esta especie endémica, tiene como característica principal el poseer la piel del vientre transparente.
Fueron encontradas en el centro de ese país, en el bosque Sehuencas, durante un trabajo de rescate de reptiles y anfibios (herpetofauna).
Esto dentro de un programa que forma parte de las medidas de mitigación del impacto ambiental de un proyecto hidroeléctrico en el Parque Nacional Carrasco.
El boletín en que se dio a conocer la noticia lo firmaron Rodrigo Aguayo y Oliver Quinteros, del Museo de Historia Natural Alcide d’Orbigny.
En el descubrimiento también participó René Carpio, del Centro de Biodiversidad y Genética de la estatal Universidad Mayor de San Simón.
Las ranas de cristal, de la especie Nymphargus bejaranoi, son de tamaño pequeño, los cuerpos miden de 19 a 24 mm y pesan entre 70 y 80 gramos.
La especie endémica de Bolivia está distribuida en los departamentos de La Paz (oeste), Cochabamba, Santa Cruz (este) y Chuquisaca (sureste), precisaron los investigadores.
Pero también se le ha ubicado en Costa Rica y en México desde 1973.
Pero estas Rana Cristal son de la especie Centrolenidae, un tipo de anfibio que aglutina varias especies que tienen por principal característica un color de piel verde claro traslúcido.
Y son todavía más comunes, por lo que no se han declarado en peligro de extinción.
La mayoría de estas ranas habitan en los árboles y plantas, donde permanecen camufladas durante la tarde, para luego tener mayor actividad durante la noche.
Son pequeñas, llegando a medir entre 20 y 23 mm, y se alimentan de insectos pequeños.
