8 sitios peculiares que estuvieron inundados y resurgieron maravillosamente.
Las costas, lagos y ríos de la Tierra están llenas de ciudades hundidas, criptas inundadas, bosques sumergidos y estructuras que se han perdido bajo el agua durante décadas debido a la naturaleza o al desarrollo humano.
El aumento del nivel del mar y las inundaciones causadas por terremotos, deslizamientos de tierra, cambios de marea, derretimiento de glaciares o represas hechas por el hombre han borrado pueblos enteros del mapa. Y a veces, cuando el agua retrocede, estas ciudades y paisajes sumergidos resurgen de las profundidades.
1.- El pueblo de Potosí, Venezuela.
Potosí fue un poblado del estado de Táchira en Venezuela, fundado hace más de dos siglos y que para el año de 1984 fue desalojado por completo para dar paso a la construcción de la represa Uribante Caparo. La represa inundó en su totalidad al pueblo.
El desalojo fue difícil de lograr, ya que, parte de la población se oponía a dejar su pueblo. Al final, el gobierno de aquel entonces logró convencer a todos sus habitantes al regalarles casas en otros sitios.
Actualmente, la inundación hecha por los constructores de esta represa está quedando sin efecto a consecuencia de las situaciones climatológicas. Desde 1998 las ruinas del pueblo han reaparecido tres veces a consecuencia de los cambios en el clima que provocan las sequías y olas de calor.
2.- Saint Thomas, Nevada, Arizona, EE.UU.
Dentro de los límites del parque Lake Mead National Recreational Area se encuentra un pueblo fantasma que se inundó cuando el lago Mead se llenó por primera vez en la década de 1930. Alguna vez un asentamiento mormón, St. Thomas prosperó como un punto de parada entre Los Ángeles y Salt Lake City. Hoy en día, los restos de la ciudad se pueden ver gracias a la disminución de los niveles de agua del lago Mead a causa de las sequías severas.
3.- «Isla tortuga» del río Muodaoxi, China.
Una pequeña isla que emerge del río Muodaoxi en el suroeste de China cada primavera se ha convertido en un nuevo punto de interés turístico debido a su similitud con una tortuga.
El río Muodaoxi se encuentra dentro de la región del embalse de las Tres Gargantas y el nivel del agua está controlado por una presa.

Cuando el río alcanza su profundidad normal a 175 metros, la isla solo muestra una pequeña punta sobre el agua. En comparación, cuando el agua desciende a unos 145 metros, la roca se conecta con el continente.
4.- Iglesia de San Nicolás, Mavrovo, Macedonia.
La iglesia se construyó a mediados de 1800 y permaneció intacta hasta que se creó un lago artificial cerca del pueblo que la sumergió. Con la sequía, el nivel del agua bajó y surgió una parte de la iglesia. Mavrovo es uno de los centros turísticos de montaña más populares de Macedonia durante todo el año.
5.- Templo de Quechula, Chiapas, México.
El templo de Quechula es un templo en ruinas en medio del Río Grijalva. Es una construcción dominica del siglo XVI. El pueblo de Quechula quedó sumergida a causa de la construcción de la presa Nezahualcóyotl en 1966. Por las sequías intensas o por el desfogue de la presa, cuando el río baja su nivel, se pueden apreciar los restos del templo dominico. Este fenómeno sucede cada 12 o 13 años.
6.- Villa Epecuén, Argentina.
Villa Epecuén fue un pueblo turístico en la provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina, en la orilla este de la Laguna Epecuén. Se desarrolló a principios de la década de 1920. En su apogeo, Villa Epecuén podía albergar al menos a 5,000 visitantes.
El 6 de noviembre de 1985, un seiche (una onda en el agua) causado por un patrón climático poco común, rompió una presa cercana y luego el dique que protegía a la aldea. El agua subió progresivamente hasta los 10 metros. El pueblo se volvió inhabitable y nunca fue reconstruido. Muchas de las ruinas están cubiertas por una capa de sal blanca y gris.
A partir de 2011 tiene un solo residente, Pablo Novak, nacido en 1930, quien regresó a su hogar en 2009 cuando las aguas retrocedieron después de cubrir el pueblo durante 25 años.
7.- Pueblo de Xuanping, China.
En 2008, el pueblo de Xuanping en China fue devastado por un poderoso terremoto de 8.0 Los ríos bloqueados por los derrumbes del sismo inundaron la totalidad del pueblo. Fue hasta 5 años después que el agua cedió y el pueblo resurgió en ruinas.
8.- Lago verde, Austria.
Grüner See (Lago Verde) es un lago en Estiria, Austria, en un pueblo llamado Tragoess. El lago está rodeado de bosques y tres montañas. El nombre «Lago Verde» se originó debido a su agua verde esmeralda.El agua limpia y clara proviene del deshielo de las montañas. Durante el invierno, el lago tiene solo de 1 a 2 metros de profundidad y el área circundante se utiliza como parque del condado.
Sin embargo, en primavera, cuando la temperatura sube y la nieve se derrite, la cuenca debajo de las montañas se llena de agua. El lago alcanza una profundidad máxima de cerca de 12 metros desde mediados de mayo hasta junio. En julio, el agua comienza a retroceder.
Visitar el lago era una de las cosas para hacer entre los que practican buceo porque se podía observar un puente, un banco, senderos y árboles bajo el agua.
Pero debido al aumento del turismo y al daño al entorno, el uso de este lago para todas las actividades de deportes acuáticos se prohibió desde 2016.
