Satélite ruso se precipita a la Tierra, sorprendiendo a Brasil y Uruguay.
Astrónomos quedaron asombrados por el paso de una bola de fuego cruzando el cielo nocturno. Se trataba del satélite Cosmos.
El satélite Cosmos, lanzado por la Unión Soviética en 1983 y cuyo reingreso a la atmósfera se grabó en vídeo, cayó esta semana sobre el Océano Pacífico sur.
La tranquilidad típica del verano austral uruguayo en las costas y en el campo se interrumpió abruptamente la noche del 3 de enero, cuando turistas y lugareños vieron una bola de fuego surcando el cielo nocturno.
El fenómeno fue registrado por una mujer en la localidad de Quebrada de los Cuervos, un área turística protegida entre las montañas del departamento de Treinta y Tres, en el este de Uruguay.
Durante el rodaje, varios testigos se preguntaron si lo que veían en el cielo era un cometa o algún tipo de aeronave.
Pero no era ninguna de las dos opciones.
La opinión de los expertos.
El astrónomo uruguayo Gonzalo Tancredi, fue quien se encargó de difundir las imágenes en su cuenta de Twitter.
Y en pocas horas el video se hizo viral en plataformas de redes sociales hasta lograr ser google trends.

Él compartió con sus seguidores esta explicación:
Varios reportes de un fenómeno brillante en el cielo de Uruguay. Fue la entrada del satélite ruso Cosmos 1437 (Id 13770).
Por su parte, el docente de Astronomía uruguayo, Juan Ceretta, corroboró lo señalado por Tancredi.
Además, explicó que el aparato «se quema producto de la fricción con el aire» al ingresar a la atmósfera terrestre.
Causa expectación en Brasil.
El satélite ingresando a la atmósfera terrestre también fue divisado desde el sur de Brasil.
La Red Brasileña de Observación de Meteoros, Bramon por sus siglas en portugués, se encargó de difundir las imágenes del momento en el que el satélite se desintegraba al regresar a la Tierra.
Bramon difundió la teoría de que el satélite habría estado realizado tareas de inteligencia para la Unión Soviética.
Y que casi cuatro décadas después, su reentrada a la atmósfera ya estaba prevista.
Esta organización brasileña, además declaró que el reingreso a la atmósfera del satélite «no representa ningún riesgo para la población en el suelo».
Lo anterior, debido a que gran parte de su estructura se quemó y evaporó durante su ingreso a la atmósfera terrestre.
Algunos observadores brasileños explicaron que:
Apenas las piezas más macizas y resistentes son capaces de soportar el calor de la reentrada, pero estas probablemente caigan en el Océano, después de cruzar los estados de Paraná, Santa Catarina y Rio Grande do Sul, además de Uruguay.
El satélite Cosmos 1437 acabó su vida útil 39 años después de haber sido puesto en órbita por los rusos.
Habría sido lanzado para realizar actividades de espionaje, el 20 de enero de 1983 desde el Cosmódromo de Plesetsk, de la entonces Unión Soviética.
