Los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades (CDC, por sus siglas en inglés) de EE. UU. aumentaron su nivel de alerta por el brote de viruela del mono. El recuento de casos en la nación americana llegó a 30 y el recuento de casos globales superó los 1,000.
Los CDC ahora aconsejan que los viajeros «practiquen mayores precauciones» para evitar el contraer y propagar la rara enfermedad viral.
El CDC dice que las personas deben evitar el contacto cercano con personas enfermas, incluyendo a aquellas con erupciones en la piel o los genitales. También evitar a los animales salvajes muertos o vivos, especialmente roedores, monos y simios.
Los viajeros también deben evitar el contacto con materiales contaminados por personas enfermas, como prendas y ropa de cama, o materiales que hayan estado en contacto con animales. También deben evitar consumir o preparar carne de caza silvestre.
