De ser así, el hundimiento sería por el principal contribuyente del aumento del nivel del mar en muchas áreas del mundo.
Las ciudades que se evalúan para estas dificultades por el aumento del nivel del mar son: Ciudad del Carmen, Cancún y Playa del Carmen.
El aumento relativo probable del nivel del mar es de 67 a 76 mm más alto para 2050.
El aumento relativo probable del nivel del mar es de 201 a 223 mm más alto para 2100.
Este artículo proporciona una estimación realista del aumento del nivel del mar para 2050 y para 2100 en el Caribe mexicano.
Pero la preocupación mayor y más específicamente, es en el lado nororiental de la península de Yucatán, entre Cancún y Playa del Carmen.
Ahí es donde se concentra la mayor parte del turismo de México.
Además, se ubican los desarrollos habitacionales de Yucatán.
El pronóstico.
Este pronóstico se basa en el resultado relativo del nivel del mar para Cayo Hueso.
El mareógrafo de tendencia a largo plazo (LTT) más cercano, los resultados relativos del nivel del mar para todos los demás registros de mareógrafos LTT del mundo y la velocidad absoluta de los domos GPS ubicado cerca del mareógrafo de Cayo Hueso, y entre Cancún y Playa del Carmen.
El cambio probable del nivel del mar es de 67 a 76 mm más alto para 2050 y de 201 a 223 mm más alto para 2100, con referencia a los valores de 2018.

Pero Ciudad de Carmen también corre riego de hundirse en los próximos 50 años.
Esto, de acuerdo con la información otorgada a medios de comunicación local por el coordinador general de proyectos estratégicos y alternativas del cambio climático del Instituto Nacional de Ecología y Cambio Climático (Inecc), Francisco Ramírez Méndez.
De acuerdo con su participación en el Foro Regional de Impactos del Cambio Climático “Vulnerabilidad y Adaptación”, en Unacar, Ciudad del Carmen se ubica en la lista junto a otros 223 de las localidades en riesgo.
Durante el encuentro, el funcionario dijo:
Hay que tomar previsiones ahora, los tres niveles de Gobierno para evitar que Ciudad del Carmen se hunda frente al cambio climático, cuando digo se hunda es literal, sea absorbida, sea inundada frente a un riesgo real la Isla.
